This project stemmed off of an article I read about Induction Loops in Bristol, it said that something like 3 out of 90 induction loops worked, which is appalling.
Considering people that are hard of hearing rely on these elements in order to help them with day to day life, that statistic was shocking, but it made me curious as to what the situation was in my local high street. So I decided to investigate.
I explored 63 shops only to find that only 5 of them had Induction loops in them. 5 out of 63!
It was a shocking result, and it prompted me to make the object above.
I wanted to make a statement to the places that had Induction Loops, to highlight their importance whilst raising awareness and I felt this was the best way.
So I created my own out of plastic and sticker, which I cut with my Cricut, and constructed an object raising awareness about the importance around Hearing Loops.
I brought it back into the spaces which had hearing loops and photographed the object in place next to the loops to encourage conversation and awareness about the lack of accessibility in Fishponds for the Hard of Hearing.
