This booklet came from a place of not knowing like, really not knowing much about the specific language used by Deaf and Hard of Hearing As I grew up around my brother who was Deaf, I quickly realised how many new terms and ideas we had to learn, and how little help there was out there. I often found myself lost in Google searches, trying to figure out what words actually meant and what was okay to say.
So I made this A–Z of Deaf Terminology, kind of like a mini guidebook for anyone who might be in the same boat. Whether you're a parent, a young person new to the Deaf community, or just curious, this is for you.
To make it more fun (and useful), I also illustrated each letter with the matching BSL hand sign. That way, you can learn the BSL alphabet while getting to grips with key terms. A little double win!
Hopefully, this booklet helps take away some of that confusion and opens the door to more understanding, confidence, and connection.
